8 Reasons to try Breathwork

By Anna Parker-Naples

My personal experience with Breathwork began because I kept seeing it mentioned everywhere. Something inside me kept niggling that this was something that I should explore further. It was pretty obvious that it would be good for my health, that much made sense without too much of a detailed description of what was involved. But what exactly the process entailed and how life changing it could be, wasn’t at all clear.

I was drawn particularly to Conscious Connected Breath, primarily because I was exploring my own spiritual connection and relationship with altered states of consciousness. I’d heard about other styles such as Wim Hof’s cold water combined methods and the more ‘peak performance’ inducing styles of The Oxygen Advantage for athletic types, although nothing spoke to me in quite the same way as CCB. I felt as though it was calling me to investigate further.

For those of you who are on the fence about whether Breathwork is something you would like to experience, and perhaps integrate into your life, here’s a run down of the main benefits of the wellness practice taking the world by storm.

  1. Stress Relief: Breathwork is an excellent method for relieving stress and calming the mind and body. Through conscious awareness of your breathing, you can release tension and reduce the physical and emotional impacts of stress.

  2. Self-Exploration: Breathwork can be an effective tool for exploring your inner world and gaining insight into your deepest thoughts (and potentially darkest) and feelings. Through this practice, you can gain a greater understanding of your limitless potential.

  3. Healing: Breathwork can be a powerful healing tool, helping to release past traumas, process unresolved emotions, and even heal the emotional causes of ongoing physical ailments.

  4. Mental Clarity: Breathwork can help to clear the mind and improve concentration, due to the increased levels of oxygen in the body.

  5. Spiritual Growth: Even one deep breathwork journey can be an effective way to connect with your higher self. By paying attention to your breath, you can connect with your intuition, leading to spiritual guidance and a sense of knowingness.

  6. Breathwork can help reduce anxious symptoms, and help ward off panic attacks ( I can vouch for this personally!)

  7. Breathing fully and deeply can boost your energy levels, and help you sleep better.

  8. Breathwork can help you to cultivate a greater sense of peace, contentment and calm.

A year into embracing breathwork, and so much has shifted for me. If you’ve been feeling intrigued by breathwork, I urge you to act on that impulse.
